On January 9, the Anti-Racist Teaching & Learning Collective launched the first Elementary Anti-Racist Teachers Institute in partnership with New Haven Public Schools (NHPS) and Elm City Montessori School (ECMS). This  8-week learning series brings together a cohort of two dozen elementary school teachers,  under the guidance of facilitators from ARTLC and ECMS, to learn new skills, frameworks, and practices pertaining to  anti-racist and culturally relevant teaching. By the end of the institute, participants will produce a project  reflective of their own learning, designed specifically with their students and school community.

Coordinated by ARTLC teacher organizer and New Haven Academy Teacher Marco Cenabre, the ARTI sessions integrate anti-racist educational theory, individual and group  reflection, and also, a space for creation and practice. The collaborative training institute is funded in part by the Nellie Mae Educational Foundation and NHPS. We look forward to sharing more updates this winter as the program unfolds.
