STOP SOLITARY CT: UNLOCK HUMANITY

Stop Solitary CT (SSCT) was first founded in 2015 under the national campaign Unlock the Box. Over the past eight years, they have been organizing to end dehumanizing practices such as solitary confinement, strip searches, limited visits/phone calls/mail privileges, lack of therapeutic and education programming, and abusive correctional officer networks in jails/prisons. Their efforts resulted in the closing of Northern CI in 2021, which was a facility well known for its torture and abuse of incarcerated men. They have also continued to organize to pass the trauma-informed and anti-violence PROTECT (Promoting Responsible Oversight, Treatment and Effective Transparency) Act. This act would limit the Department of Corrections use of confinement, with SSCT collecting letters from current and formerly incarcerated people in support of the bill.
