Indigenous Perspectives on Early U.S. History
Resource guide. By Helen Tamrat and Karla Camacho. In collaboration with Meredith Garvin, Jake Crutchfield and Pete Kazienko of New Haven Academy.
This resource guide is for educators looking to center Indigenous perspectives when teaching early U.S. history. Materials for how to teach—through anti-racist frameworks and pedagogies—in addition to what to teach—primary sources from Indigenous peoples reacting to colonization, secondary texts on New Haven/CT Indigenous history and resistance, and tangible opportunities for students to get involved in local activism—are all included.
These materials were created with high school teachers at New Haven Academy but can be utilized by all educators who want students to think more critically about how history is created.
